Meet Our Pastor
Jeremy Bethea
Rev. Jeremy Bethea is the Pastor of the Historical Mount Olive Baptist Church. Jeremy Bethea is a lifelong resident of Bennettsville, South Carolina. He is the son of the late Johnny J. Bethea and the late Mary Edith Bethea. He is married to Dr. Kandace Rhames Bethea who serves as the Superintendent of the Marion School District. He has served there in the ministry for 21 years. Under his leadership, lives have been changed and families strengthened. The church serves as a beacon of hope for the community.
In October 1882, ten years after the incorporation of the town of Mullins, the Mt. Olive Baptist Church was organized by a group of sixteen persons led by Brother Calvin Gerald. Being sons and daughters of slaves and former slaves themselves, the group set out from Nazarene Baptist Church, less than twenty years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, to organize a Baptist Church.
